Canned cocktail questions
How strong are canned cocktails?
Strength varies widely. Hard seltzers are usually around 4 to 5% alcohol, many canned spritzes and highballs are 5 to 8%, and spirit-forward canned cocktails like margaritas, negronis and old fashioneds can be 10 to 15% or higher. One strong can can equal two regular drinks, so always check the ABV on the label.
Do canned cocktails go bad?
Unopened canned cocktails keep for about a year, sometimes longer. Drinks made with fresh juice, cream or dairy taste best within a few months, since flavors fade over time. Store them somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight, and check the date printed on the can. Once opened, drink them the same day.
Are canned cocktails made with real liquor?
Many are, using real spirits like vodka, tequila, gin or whiskey, such as Cutwater and Tip Top. Others use malt or wine as the alcohol base, which is cheaper and sold in more places. The label will say whether it's a spirit-based drink, a malt beverage or a wine-based cocktail. Spirit-based ones usually taste closer to a bar cocktail.
