Cellar spirits questions
How does ordering from Stella's Cellar work?
Order a Cellar bottle online like any other bottle. We bring it in for you, and it's ready in 2 to 3 days for pickup at 983 Manhattan Ave or local delivery in Brooklyn. For something tonight, the in-store spirits shelf is ready the same day.
What's the difference between Scotch and bourbon?
Scotch is whisky made in Scotland, mostly from malted barley, and aged at least three years in oak, often in used casks. Bourbon is American whiskey made from at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak, which gives it more vanilla and caramel. Many Scotches also taste of peat smoke.
What do the ages on a whisky label mean?
An age statement gives the youngest whisky in the bottle, counted from distillation to bottling. Whisky stops aging once it's bottled. Older isn't automatically better, since cask type and climate matter as much as time, but age statements help compare bottles from the same distillery.
How should I store an opened bottle of spirits?
Keep it upright, closed tightly and out of sunlight. Spirits don't spoil like wine, but a bottle that's less than a third full can slowly lose aroma as the air inside oxidizes it. If you have a little left of something special, finishing it within a year or two keeps it at its best.
