Blended Scotch questions

What is blended Scotch?

Blended Scotch whisky combines one or more single malt Scotch whiskies with one or more single grain Scotch whiskies. Every component must be made and matured in Scotland under Scotch whisky regulations. Blending lets producers create a consistent house style that can balance malt richness, grain softness, fruit, spice, and smoke.

What is the difference between blended Scotch and blended malt Scotch?

A standard blend may contain both malt whisky and grain whisky. Blended malt Scotch contains only single malt whiskies from more than one distillery, with no grain whisky added. Both are blended categories, yet blended malt usually highlights malt-driven texture and flavor while a standard blend can be lighter or more streamlined.

Is blended Scotch good for cocktails?

This Scotch style works well in cocktails because its balance can remain recognizable alongside ice, citrus, sugar, or soda. Use it in a Scotch Highball, Rob Roy, Blood and Sand, or a simple whisky sour. A lighter blend suits highballs, while a richer or smokier blend gives stirred drinks more presence.

How should blended Scotch be stored?

Store blended Scotch upright with its cap firmly closed, away from direct sunlight and large temperature swings. Whisky is stable unopened because it is bottled at relatively high alcohol. Once opened, the bottle remains enjoyable for a long time, though a nearly empty bottle oxidizes faster than a fuller one.
